    • Everyday our neighbors, who look just like us, face difficult situations, making hard choices between one necessity or another. Some are hungry. Some need clothes, have no heat, no lights, no water. Some struggling to keep a roof overhead; facing eviction and homelessness. Often they have no hope. Where can they turn?
    • Who We Are

Over 30 men and women offering person-to-person service to individuals in need.
We donate our time, talents and energy to help restore a normal life to those who find themselves in difficult circumstances.
    • What We Do

Give Help when help is needed.

The needs are great in the area we serve, but together we can make a difference!
Sometimes we cannot solve all of the neighbor’s problems, so often we collaborate with and refer the neighbors to other agencies, and charitable organizations.

But no matter what the situation – we provide something more than just paying a bill, we bring friendship and hope.
    • Who We Help

Our Conference helps those in need of help with rent, mortgage, utility bills, and some car repairs.

We accept requests from neighbors in the following zip codes: 27502, 27539, 27523, 27511, 27513, 27540 and registered members of St. Andrew Parish.

    • Mission

Our parish community, in answering the call of Christ…
       “For I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink;
I was a stranger, and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me,
in prison and you came to see me."
      -  Matthew 25:31-45

      Our Mission:
to enhance the ability of our parish community to assist people in need.
We are a network of friends, inspired by Gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world
through personal Christian relationships and service to people in need.

    • Case #1:
A single mother with 2 small children found herself in unfamiliar territory. She was temporarily laid off from her job. Her rent and utilities got to a point where they were past due. The neighbor was served with an eviction notice and given a date to appear in court.

Through the power of prayer, the neighbor found patience and perseverance as we fired off a list of documents we needed to collect from her.  The neighbor with financial resources from St. Vincent de Paul at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church and other non-profit organizations, came up with enough money to pay her past due rent.

She obtained a full-time job, and the conference was able to make a referral of this neighbor to “A Doorway for Hope”.  A Doorway for Hope organization approved the referral and provided this neighbor with two future months of rent.  This support helped the neighbor get to a point that she could sustain her family financially. The neighbor experienced the graces of God, but so did the St. Andrew the Apostle conference. We felt the love of God working through us.
    • Our Stories

      Case #2:
The neighbor a young man lost his job. The neighbor ended up using up all his savings, borrowed money from friends and sold personal items. He took a part-time job with uber eats until he had to give up his car which he leased. The neighbor was feeling helpless and scared.

Through the power of prayer and the collaboration with the neighbor we were able to get the neighbor back on his feet financially. The Conference worked directly with the utility company to negotiate a payment plan and discuss the option of forgiving the late payment fee assessed to the neighbor.

The neighbor was also referred to the St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church’s Career Ministry Network. The neighbor was able to benefit from this ministry by obtaining a job which was even better than the job he was laid off from.

The neighbor felt God’s love through our work and let us know we really did make a difference in his life. After the neighbor got his past due bills paid, he made a financial donation to the St. Vincent de Paul at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church.

    • Case #3
The Saint Andrew the Apostle Conference received an urgent case from a neighbor, a war veteran with whose power was to be shut off.  Visitors were available to go on this urgent call. The neighbor lives in a very old and very dilapidated trailer home.  He met us at the door and carefully guided us across the only safe places to walk on the trailer floor.  One area was covered in plastic and duct tape.  He pointed out other places where the floor would collapse. We went through the usual process of collecting information and quickly determined this was a case where the Conference could help him pay his electric bill.

The visitors were extremely affected by his living circumstances, gave a full report to the conference and the power bill was paid immediately.  It was clear that the neighbor could not continue to live in his home much longer unless repairs were made. One visitor knew the founder of St. Francis Builds, a new non-profit in the area, who repairs homes for those who don’t have financial resources.  This contact was made, and he visited our neighbor by the end of the week.  This man came to the next SVdP meeting to introduce himself and form what will be an enduring bond between two groups inspired by our Lord to help the poor and needy.  The two groups have partnered to begin addressing the needed repairs that will allow the neighbor to remain in his home.
