Accepted, Welcomed and Embraced (AWE), St. Andrew’s LGBTQ+ Ministry, is holding a two-week supply drive for Haven House in Raleigh beginning Saturday, September 5 through Sunday, September 20.
What is Haven House? Established in 1973, Haven House offers assistance to youth up to age 24 who are homeless and/or in a crisis situation in order to provide them with shelter, food, and services to help them to have stable living environments and develop a path to success. Many of the youth served have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect.
Haven House provides various youth programs, a 24/7 telephone crisis line, a Street Outreach program, and a Transition in Place program which provides financial assistance, counseling, and life skills classes. Haven House also maintains Wrenn House which is the only homeless and crisis center for youth ages 10 to 17 in the Triangle area.
Haven House is currently in need of non-perishable food items for their pantry, personal care items, and Lyft and Uber cards ($25 requested on the cards) for those needing medical care, work transportation, job interviews, or other services that cannot be accessed via the public transit system. The lists of needed pantry and personal care items are to the right. There is also a link for financial contributions.
Two collection boxes will be located in the reception area of the Parish Office for two full weeks for parishioners to drop off donations anytime between Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 20. A special box will be provided for Uber and Lyft cards.
In addition, there will be a table in the courtyard area with volunteers where donations can be dropped off before and after all of the weekend Masses on September 12/13 and September 19/20.
