When you leave Mass on Saturday and Sunday, April 11 & 12, you will have an opportunity to sign a poster thanking Bishop Zarama and the U.S. Bishops for their strong support of humane immigration reform.
And let's continue to challenge ourselves to better understand the plight of the immigrants in our community!
Would you like to be alerted with additional immigration information? If so, sign up below and someone will be in touch.
How might we help our brothers and sister in Christ?
First we must form ourselves to better understand what the Church is teaching. Below are some resources to assist you with this formation.
Join a Rosary for the Immigrant each Tuesday at noon here. Meeting ID: 854 6934 0366/Passcode 426261
Learn more about and consider signing the Cabrini Pledge here. The Cabrini Pledge, endorsed by the US Bishops, is both a reminder of our immigrant heritage and a call to deeper engagement with our faith in response to current events.
What is Advocacy?
Catholic disciples on mission are called to put Two Feet of Love in Action!
This foundational principal includes two distinct, but complementary, ways we can put the Gospel in action in response to God’s love: social justice (addressing systemic, root causes of problems that affect many people) and charitable works (addressing immediate needs and providing emergency assistance). Learn more about this concept on the US Bishop’s website here.
While St. Andrew parishioners are very generous with Charitable Giving, the information below provides an opportunity do acts of advocacy.
You are invited to form your conscience on the issues below and complete the action opportunities if you feel called to do so.
When I was hungry and thirsty….
Nutrition and clean water programs all over the world.
Many Catholic parishes across the nation have embraced environmental stewardship as a ministry, answering Pope Francis’ profound call in his Papal Encyclical, Laudato Si’. This important pastoral letter, addressed to both Church leaders and Catholic laity, explains our responsibility to care for God’s creation.
St. Michael the Archangel in Cary has created a document to assist with ways to reduce waste. This document identifies local stores and organizations that provide reuse, recycling, and repair opportunities. View that document here.
When I was ill . . .
The Catholic Church states that organ donation is an acceptable and even morally laudable practice. The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that organ transplants “are in conformity with the moral law,” though only “if the physical and psychological dangers and risks to the donor are proportionate to the good that is sought for the recipient” (No. 2296).
Safe Haven Baby Box Advocacy Opportunity This initiative has saved many lives in Indiana, but other states’ Safe Surrender laws require in-person surrender of children. The Knights of Columbus have a lobbying effort to change this and allow parents to surrender their children through a Baby Box with a person on hand to receive the baby 24 hours a day.
If you find other organizations who are advocating for our brothers and sisters around the world, please share the information with Melissa DuCharme at [email protected] for review.
